Zamora cathedral, Romanesque and with its distinctive scaled dome, stands at the western end of the old town, next to the castle and above the Duero. The surrounding streets are narrow and partly pedestrian, so it is best to agree on the pickup point.

• Holy Week in Zamora (Easter week): Zamora's Holy Week, declared of international tourist interest, fills the city with processions day and night and many outside visitors. The old town has constant closures and accommodation sells out, so many visitors stay elsewhere and travel in and out each day.
• San Pedro festivities (late June): The festivities of San Pedro, Zamora's patron saint, fill the city in late June with concerts and the traditional garlic fair. Night-time returns to nearby villages are the hardest to find without booking.

Tip: If your car is stuck in Benavente after a breakdown or a change of plans, give the exact spot: the motorway junction has several service areas.
