Leaving from Sanabria

Sanabria, in the far north-west on the borders with Galicia and Portugal, is a mountain area with the Lake Sanabria Natural Park. Puebla de Sanabria is its main town and service centre; in summer it receives many tourists, and the rest of the year it is a long way from the hospital in Zamora.

Which way it goes

From Puebla de Sanabria the route is the A-52 to Benavente, then the A-6 to Madrid. Near Puebla there is also a station on the high-speed line to Galicia with trains to Madrid.

Zamora province has no airport: people fly from Barajas, from Valladolid or, in the north-west, from the Galician airports and Porto. From Benavente or Sanabria the airport trip is long and worth booking in good time.

When demand peaks

• Holiday getaways and returns (long weekends, summer and Christmas): At the start and end of holidays, the A-6 and A-52 around Benavente carry heavy traffic between Madrid and Galicia. Trains to Madrid and Galicia fill up sooner, and with them transfers to the station.

Tip: From Sanabria to Barajas the road trip is long; consider a car to Sanabria station and the train onwards if the timetable fits.
