Zamora station is on the Madrid–Galicia high-speed line, with trains east to Madrid-Chamartín and west to Ourense, Santiago and A Coruña. From Benavente, Toro or the villages, a car is the practical way to reach the first and last trains of the day.

The city of Zamora, on the Duero, holds the hospital, the high-speed station, public offices and an old town full of Romanesque churches. It is where people from across the province come for appointments and errands, and the starting point for trains to Madrid and Galicia.

• Holy Week in Zamora (Easter week): Zamora's Holy Week, declared of international tourist interest, fills the city with processions day and night and many outside visitors. The old town has constant closures and accommodation sells out, so many visitors stay elsewhere and travel in and out each day.
• Holiday getaways and returns (long weekends, summer and Christmas): At the start and end of holidays, the A-6 and A-52 around Benavente carry heavy traffic between Madrid and Galicia. Trains to Madrid and Galicia fill up sooner, and with them transfers to the station.

Tip: To visit Zamora at Easter, give your exact accommodation: processions close the old town and pickup may have to be on another street.
